Surrey Theatre Academy is a family-run, independently owned performing arts school in Haslemere, Surrey. Founded in 2007 by Lucy Moir, it is one of the longest-established theatre schools in the area and holds ICAP accreditation - awarded only to children's activity providers who meet the highest standards of safeguarding, safety and quality.

Our 20 year story

Surrey Theatre Academy began its life as “Theatre Monkeys” in August 2007 with just eight children and a dream to provide an excellent and inspiring place for young people to learn musical theatre. There are now over 200 children coming along to classes weekly and taking part in our holiday workshops. In 2017 founder Lucy decided that in order to reflect the way the school has evolved and developed, a re-brand to Surrey Theatre Academy was the perfect move forward - whilst keeping the name Theatre Monkeys for our youngest students.

We are very proud of our reputation for being an inclusive family-run school that has a huge emphasis on fun and confidence, but also manages to achieve truly excellent professional shows year after year. Our students are very loyal and extremely hard working and over the years have achieved fantastic results in both their end of term productions, festival entries, outside performances and our 100% pass rate in LAMDA examinations.
